Return of the Immersive Sim

There are a few genres that were formative in my early gaming years and Immersive Sims was a major one. Thief, System Shock 2, and Deus Ex completely consumed me. (I even wrote stories and built fan missions for Thief!)
Few genres reward curiosity and creativity like the ImSim. These games invite you to experiment, fail, and find your own path.
Despite critical acclaim, the genre never quite found mainstream success, even with landmark titles from Arkane and Eidos-Montréal.
But the ImSim is back! kept alive by passionate indie developers who’ve picked up the torch.
That’s why we’re kicking off Digiphile with this collection, to celebrate what made these games special and spotlight the creators keeping the spirit alive.
Every title here is either one I’ve played and loved or have on my wishlist. You can read a short note about why each game earned its place once our blog goes live.
